Palaces & Villas

Choose your Tour

Each palace and each villa, has its own unique charm. Make your choice and I’ll guide you to discover these extraordinary places. Take note, however, that the Borghese Gallery must be booked largely in advance, the Colonna Princes open the doors of their palace only on Saturdays, and Villa Farnesina is open only in the morning and never on Sunday.

Private guided tour at the Colonna Palace

A guided tour of the Colonna Palace gives you the unique opportunity to admire the setting in which a thousand-year-old princely Roman family  lives.

We’ll see ornate door frames, sumptuous furniture, mirrors and tapestries, and hundreds of paintings covering the brocade walls, and the throne room, with the portrait of Pope Martino V Colonna, who did so much for the city of Rome and gave so much prestige to his family.

I’ll guide you through the splendid gallery, where the frescoes on the ceiling celebrate the battle of Lepanto and another great member of the family: Mark Antony, victorious commander of the pontifical fleet.

On request the private apartment of Princess Isabel, once the exclusive setting for Roman social life, can also be visited.

Private guided tour of Villa Borghese and to the Borghese Gallery

It’s known for having “the most wonderful collection of art in the world”.

The Borghese Gallery is a villa designed to serve as a hunting lodge and, above all, as a museum to exhibit the private collection of sculptures and paintings belonging to the Borghese family.

I’ll guide you through this unique world that was a dream transformed into reality four hundred years ago, by an exceptional man: Cardinal Scipione Borghese.

A dream for art lovers, “an elysium of delight”, the masterpieces of Botticelli, Raphael, Titian, Correggio, Caravaggio, Bernini and Canova are all displayed in impressive surroundings.

Private guided tour of the Doria-Pamphilj Palace

A small Versailles, in via del Corso, this palazzo is still inhabited by the Doria-Pamphilj family, who opens its doors to visitors.

The extraordinary charm of the Pamphilj Gallery lies precisely in its ability to convey the splendor and exquisite taste of the Roman princely families.

I will guide you through thousands of paintings hanging on the walls. Among the masterpieces not to be missed are the famous portrait of the family Pope, Innocenzo X Pamphilj, brought to life by an inspired Velasquez, the vibrant and sensual touch that Titian gives to Salome, Mary Magdalene painted by a young Caravaggio, and the unforgettable portrait that Raphael made of his friends.

On request the private apartments can also be visited.

Private guided tour of the Barberini Palace

It is the size of a royal palace. The baroque pomp is revealed in the monumental staircase of the genius who was Gianlorenzo Bernini, and the glorious frescoes in the hall by Pietro da Cortona, are second in size only to the Sistine Chapel.

In this superb setting, paintings of the Renaissance, the Baroque, the eighteenth century, and those works that made Rome the capital of art, are exhibited.

Private guided tour of Villa Farnesina

If only for Raphael, for the splendid Galatea plowing through the waters, for the loggia frescoed with the fable of Amore and Psyche, this villa is worth the trip to Rome.

I’ll guide you to discover this precious Renaissance treasure set in the Trastevere district. I’ll introduce you to Agostino Chigi, the banker who five hundred years ago with an  absolutely modern spirit, was the patron of this masterpiece.

A wonderful afternoon at Palazzo Doria Pamphilj

12/01/2022

We visited Palazzo Doria Pamphilj last December with Paola Lauro. She talked us through the intricate history of the Doria Pamphilj family and of the palazzo itself, and guided us through the marvelous paintings hanging on the gallery walls. We really enjoyed the visit: Paola is not only a very knowledgeable art historian and guide, but she is also very pleasant to be with. I look forward to the next Roman tour with her, and will certainly recommend her to both Italian and foreign visitors.

The Borghese Gallery

15/03/2018

I had come to Rome many times for work and enjoyed its restaurants and its sunny streets. This year all the family came along and we asked Dr Paula Lauro to take us around for a full week. The main history events seem to have happened here and we enjoyed all the stories, especially the connections between the main artists of this world and their sponsors. We fell for the magnificent frescoes. We come back next year.
